Death Metal Acts
Hypocrisy: Probably one of the most hardest working Scandinavian melodic Death Metal bands to date, Hypocrisy has been around since 1992, and originally broke up in 1997 after the success of their Death Metal classic, The Final Chapter, but reformed in 1999 after such high sales of the album, bringing in another Death Metal classic, their s/t album. Since 1992, Hypocrisy have released over 12 albums, all in which constantly change as the band evolves. For fans of In Flames (old and new), Soilwork, Arch Enemy, Opeth, and Meshuggah.
Mnemic: An Industrial melodic Death Metal band from Denmark, Mnemic is one of the most commonly overlooked bands of the heavy metal world. Although not as heavy as some of their fellow Death Metal brothers, Mnemic never fail to deliver fast riffs mixed with catchy melodies and hard hitting blast beats. Definitely one of the newer bands to be on the To Watch list. For fans of Soilwork, In Flames (new), Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory, and Hypocrisy.
Orphaned Land: Few people have probably ever heard of this Israeli, Jewish Death Metal band. With their new concept album, Mabool: The Story Of The Three Sons Of Seven, which is a story about Noah’s Ark, the band combines heavy Death Metal vocals with harmonic vocals and female vocals along with complicated guitar riffs and even use of their native Israeli instruments in this 5 star classic album. For fans of Opeth, Katatonia (new), In The Woods..., Tristania, and Solefald.
Doom Metal Acts
Katatonia: A power house of a Doom band from Gothenburg, Sweden. The band originally began as heavy funeral Doom (a type of overly depressing Death Metal with slightly cheesy clean vocals), but have now evolved into a more accessible form of Doom Metal that can only be described as atmospheric and cold. For fans of My Dying Bride, Opeth, Candlemass, Amorphis, and In Flames (new).
Isis: Considered one of the most heaviest bands to date, Isis is a rather mysterious band in which I know little about. The band focuses mainly on atmospheric Drone Doom Metal, with soft melodies and heavy-as-fuck distortion with (very low in the mix) vocals, all working to create mammoth albums, both dynamic and devastating. For fans of Sunn O))), Earth, Katatonia (old), Opeth, and Neurosis.
In The Woods...: Are by far the most overlooked, underrated bands in the history of metal. Having released nothing but classic albums since the early 1990’s, very little is really known about this band in general. Combining 10 minute long Opeth-esque epics to short, hard hitting dynamics. The mixture of raspy growls with both Dracula vocals and female vocals, and even featuring cellos, orchestras, and violins, this band is musically hard to beat on any level. For fans of Opeth, Katatonia (old and new), Isis, Dimmu Borgir, and Amorphis.
If you like this list, check out some of these bands. You will not be disappointed. More may be coming soon...
